Sony Ericsson W810i specification

Sony Ericsson W810Engadget has a hands-on video of the Sony Ericsson W810i for those of you who've been eager for a closer look.

More W810i news coming from CES 2006. GearLive has a video of a demo given by Sony Ericsson rep John Mulder, exploring the features of the new Sony Ericsson W810i.

Sony Ericsson has launched its new quad-band EDGE Walkman phone, the Sony Ericsson W810.

Update: MobileWhack reports that the FCC has approved the Sony Ericsson W810.

W810 features include:

* 2-megapixel camera
* Bluetooth
* audio playback
* Memory Stick Pro Duo card
* MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MIDI and WAV files supported

Mobiledia has a review of the Sony Ericsson W810i, and is very impressed with the phone's camera: "The W810i's built-in 2.0-megapixel camera is state-of-the-art, with unmatched usability and a bundle of effects and features. Although some noise and slight blurring occurred when not held steady, it's difficult to find a better camera phone with a high-resolution camera and user friendly features."

PCMag reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i and comments on the phone's camera: "We measured resolution at about 700 lines, which is very good. Outdoor shots were overexposed, with a bit of a haze over the image, and indoor shots didn't have the punchy colors of the Samsung MM-A800's 2MP camera. But those problems were quickly fixed in a photo-editing program, and this is still a very good phone camera. The camcorder function was useless, taking 176-by-144 videos at 10 frames per second, like many other cell-phone cameras."

MobileBurn reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and found it to be a fantastic handset, doing most things extremely well. About the phone's camera: "The white balance options cover most of the situations that you could expect to encounter: daylight, cloudy, incandescent, florescent, and automatic. The automatic mode handles most outside shots well, but had a few random issues on cloudy days for me. Indoor fluorescent lighting was handled by the auto mode fairly well, but as was the case with the K750 and W800, the automatic mode has serious trouble with incandescent lighting. Fortunately the manual incandescent white balance mode handles those situations well. Compared to the earlier models, though, the W810's night mode appears to received a sizeable upgrade in performance. Very low light situations will still be noisy, but less extreme scenes often look noise free and perfectly lit. Night mode can be quickly toggled by pressing on the 7 key when the camera is in use."

Phonescoop reviews the Sony Ericsson W810 and has this to say about the musicphone's camera capabilities: "The W810 is the only high-end cameraphone from Sony Ericsson that does not feature an active slide cover for the lens. There is a hump around the lens that effectively protects it from scratches, but not from pocket lint. Since it cannot be started by opening a cover, the camera is started by more traditional camera-phone means - either holding down the dedicated shutter button or starting the camera application from the main menu. The camera will not start unless the phone is awake. If the screen is asleep or keyguard is on, the camera cannot be started. Because of all the steps and time required to take a picture, we unfortunately missed a few too many Kodak moments while fumbling to get the W810 to take a picture."

PocketLint reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and likes the phone: "Taking its design cues from previous star performers such as the K750i, the W810i is a vision in matt black. Its compact lines set off by a rather novel soft key and joystick one-two-three combo sitting below an exceptionally clear 262k colour screen. ... In use it's a dream, as long as you like the Sony Ericsson menu system, anyway."

Infosync reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and finds the phone's camera to be "first-class". Overall: "Picking up where the W800i left off, the Sony Ericsson W810i offers improved music navigation in tandem with the same excellent music management capabilities and decent amount of bundled memory as its predecessor. Out-of-box audio quality is on par with the high standards we've come to except from the handset maker, while we're slightly disappointed by the lax transfer speeds of USB 1.1 and the lack of stereo Bluetooth audio. These niggles aside, the W810i makes for a stellar music phone with side servings of a 2 Megapixel camera and EDGE."

From the news release:

Sony Ericsson today announced the latest addition to its line-up of Walkman(R)- branded mobile music phones to further enhance the consumer's mobile music experience, the sophisticated, Satin Black W810. The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), enabling people to easily transfer their CD collection while staying connected to friends, family and business colleagues anywhere in the world.

The Sony Ericsson W810 offers the latest in mobile multi-media functionality. The W810 lets you listen to hours of music, capture and send high-resolution images, access the Internet, as well as take advantage of fast data download speeds for games and streaming video and stay connected through instant messaging or email. The latest Walkman phone comes with a 512MB removable Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM), which can be upgraded to a 2GB Memory Stick already available in retail stores, allowing consumers to store a wealth of music tracks, photos, video and other multimedia files on the phone.

Extending the highly acclaimed Sony Ericsson Walkman phone line-up, the stylish black with orange trim W810 advances the mobile music experience by seamlessly blending together entertainment and advanced mobile phone technology to offer a truly credible digital music experience supporting industry standard MP3 and AAC music file formats. The phone comes complete with quality HPM-70 stereo headphones which feature a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for personal customization.

Consumers can easily and quickly load music to the phone by uploading their CD collection on to the W810 from a PC via Memory Stick PRO Duo or USB 2.0 using the provided Disc2Phone music management software. This enclosed PC software makes it easy to sort, browse and transfer files on the 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo, which provides capacity for approximately 150 music tracks -- the equivalent of around 15 full length CDs.

Enjoying music on the Sony Ericsson W810 Walkman phone is extremely simple because a dedicated Walkman button quickly pulls up the music menu regardless of other applications in use. The most common music controls needed (Play/Pause/Stop/Skip Track/Volume) are positioned just below the phone's screen which allows people to move easily between tracks or adjust the volume on the speaker or headphones. Engaging Mega Bass(TM) improves the sound experience when listening to music through the external speaker or the high quality headphones provided.

"Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones are redefining how consumers listen and enjoy music. Since the launch of the W800 flagship Walkman (R) phone in August 2005, consumers across the world have been embracing the concept of the mobile phone as a credible digital music player. It is very exciting to see how Walkman phones are allowing people around the world to enjoy high quality music anywhere, anytime," said Miles Flint, president for Sony Ericsson.

"Like the popular song 'Born in the USA', the W810 Walkman phone was specifically designed with the needs of North American operators and consumers in mind, and it is the most advanced Walkman phone to date created for this region," said Najmi Jarwala, president and head of North American operations, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (USA), Inc. "If the sales of the current Walkman phones are any indication, we are expecting big things for the W810. It is an exciting time to be at Sony Ericsson in North America as we are starting to rapidly roll out innovative designs and feature-rich devices at all price segments for North American consumers."

The Sony Ericsson W810 features an integrated high-quality 2 megapixel auto-focus camera with photo light. It also features an easily recognizable digital camera-like interface enabling you to capture quality pictures and video.

As with all Walkman phones, your music automatically pauses when an incoming call is received and begins playing again when the call ends. The phone also offers a music-only mode for those occasions when the phone function must be disengaged, such as during air travel.

The W810 is equipped with EDGE technology, to allow quick and easy data transfers and Internet access, and Bluetooth(TM) Wireless technology for connectivity with Bluetooth handsfree headsets and sharing data with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. A range of Walkman phone accessories including speakers and desk stands will also be available.

The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone available in Satin Black and starts shipping in Spring 2006.
