The Motorola i870 has MP3 playing capabilities and Nextel digital walkie-talkie, and also features a digital camera, Bluetooth® capabilities, GPS(1) and Nextel Direct Talk(SM), the off-network digital walkie-talkie service that works anywhere between compatible phones within a range of up to six miles.

Motorola i870 Reviews

CNET reviews the Motorola i870 and found the phone took decent pictures: "In another first for Nextel, the i870 features a 1.3-megapixel camera, which includes a 4X digital zoom, a flash, and a self-timer. Picture quality is decent, with better color saturation than we've seen from other megapixel camera phones, though it still can't compare with a digital camera. You can take pictures in sizes from 128x96 to 1,280x1,024 pixels in either Fine or Normal quality settings. On the other hand, it's missing the picture effects (black and white, sepia, and so on) and the white-balance controls that you find with most camera phones."

PhoneScoop reviews the Motorola i870 and writes about the phone's camera: "Like most clamshell phones, the i870's camera is near the hinge on the lid. The bulk of the lower half of the phone provides a nice perch to keep fingers out of the way of the lens, as well as steadying the phone in the hand. Unfortunately no matter how still the phone is held, shots still come out blurry. They lack any detail one might expect from a 1.3 megapixel camera. They look good on the phone's bright 176 x 220 screen, but when transferred to a PC their deficiencies are clear."

MobileTechReview reviews the Motorola i870, and is not very impressed with the phone's camera: "Photo quality is sub-par for a 1.3MP camera when compared to other camera phones of the same resolution such as the Nokia 6682 and LG VX9800 (though not much worse than the Cingular 8125 and E-TEN M600). Pictures taken in bright, direct sunlight tend to white out yellow and white objects, but works well with other colors. The camera has a purple-ish tint in sunny outdoor shots. The colors are reasonably bright. The camera captures much more detail in well lit indoor settings, showing sharp images with some color loss. Once you've taken a photo, you'll have options to save the picture, send it to a mobile number or an email address, use it as a caller photo ID or set it as the background of the phone’s main screen."

From the news release:

Operating on the Nextel National Network, the new i870 phone features a 1.3 mega pixel digital camera and a camcorder that record both video and still images that can be shared with other users via Nextel's Multimedia Messaging service (MMS). MP3 files, video and still images can be saved to the handset's Transflash removable memory card. The MP3 audio player is compatible with stereo headsets and features dedicated player buttons on the exterior of the clamshell-style handheld.

The Motorola i870 features Nextel's Group Walkie-Talkie® for fast and efficient walkie-talkie conversations with up to 21 participants and Nextel Direct Talk, the two-way radio feature that keeps users connected when one or all are out of a coverage area. The advanced handset also features Bluetooth® technology for hands-free wireless communication with compatible accessories, and is GPS(1) enabled, giving users access to a wide variety of location-based services and applications. The phone features a 176 x 220 internal color display and a 96 x 65 external color display for crisp, high-resolution visibility.
