Nokia 6280

InfoSync World reports that the Nokia 6280, which integrates a dual camera system (a 2.0-megapixel camera, back-mounted, and a front-mounted 0.3-megapixel camera), is now shipping in European markets, for an estimated €375 EUR before subsidies or taxes: "Nokia today confirmed to infoSync World that the handset maker has initiated shipments of its highest-end slider to date, the 6280. The 6280 includes an array of features more commonly found in the Finnish maker's smartphones such as a dual camera setup for video calls and a high resolution screen."

Nokia 6280 Reviews

3G reviews the Nokia 6280 and has this to say about the phone's camera: "The 6280 adopts the dual front camera pose famously pioneered by Sony Ericsson, which lets you handle the phone like a standalone digital snapper. The handset’s size and weight lends itself nicely to this operation. The two-megapixel camera can be fired-up by a dedicated side key and shoots photos in a 1600x1200 resolution. In capture mode the 6280 lets you intuitively and easily delve into the settings menu to change modes. It really is one of the simplest camera phones to manage. The photos themselves are of consistent quality, showing good detail and colour, but they can be prone to overblown highlights and a lack of focus around the periphery of the composition."

InfoSync reviews the Nokia 6280, and finds it capable but nothing impressive considering the 3G competition out there. The overall impression: Average, for a 3G phone.

The review also goes on to talk about the phone's camera: "The Nokia 6280 also features a 2 Megapixel camera, snapping stills of good quality in daylight and of adequate quality in darker environments. Aiming to assimilate the functions of a dedicated camera, the phone's display, which acts as a viewfinder, automatically switches to landscape mode when the camera is activated. Its various options are then easily adjusted by means of the action buttons and volume buttons, with the handset also offering video recording at a VGA resolution of 0.3 Megapixel and lower. Both stills and videos can quickly be added to MMS messages from within the camera application."

LordPercy reviews the Nokia 6280 and finds a lot to like about the phone, although the build quality felt a little bit iffy. About the phone's camera: "However having a phone that's good at being a phone just isn't enough, it has to do more. Luckily the 6280 does do more, a fair bit more. Perhaps its main selling point is the 2 mega pixel digital camera producing images up to 1600x1200 resolution and there are a number of pre programmed modes, including a low light night mode and a small flash. The gallery application lets you view images that can then be sent as a message or even printed via Nokia's XpressPrint technology which acts as a pict bridge to compatible printers and photo kiosks."

Taking personalization a step further, the Nokia 6280 can announce incoming calls with video ring tones. With dedicated camera and zoom buttons, the Nokia 6280 creates a natural, user-friendly conventional camera experience by operating the photography function in a horizontal landscape mode. Samsung MM-A920

Details have surfaced about Samsung's MM-A920. According to Engadget, the phone features:

* EV-DO
* 1.3 megapixel camera
* MicroSD slot
* Bluetooth

Samsung MM-A920 Reviews

Mobiledia reviews the Samsung MM-A920 and writes about the phone's camera: "With the push of a button the A920's 1.3-megapixel camera lens is activated on the front cover. Converting the internal display into the viewfinder, photos of up to 1280 x 960 px in resolution can be captured. Other resolution sizes include 800 x 600 px, 640 x 480 px, and 320 x 240 px. In addition to resolution selections, users can choose between Fine, Normal, and Economy images compression quality options when space is limited. Fast becoming the standard in camera phone technology, 1.3-megapixel cameras excel past prior generation imaging by capturing photos high-enough in quality to make decent prints."

RealTechNews reviews the Samsung A920 with Sprint Power Vision, and concludes: "Sprint is really making bold moves into the TV arena and I have to say that paired with the video phone, music service, games, stereo speakers, and all the other many bells and whistles, the phone is amazing and the service options seem endless. Only con for me is not having the service be quad band because I travel a lot internationally, but if that’s not an issue for you - this is one sleek looking phone with a lot going on under the hood."

DigitalTrends reviews the Samsung MM-A920 and notes that the phone supports the PictBridge standard, so that you can print photos without a PC if you have a PictBridge compatible printer. The review also talks about the phone's battery life: "Samsung estimates that you'll get three hours of continuous talk time, which is a little below average. No estimated standby time is listed, which to us sounds like a studio not previewing a movie for critics knowing that the subsequent reviews will be less than benevolent. Suffice it to say, this is a phone that ought to be charged every night and will require you to pack a charger for even overnight trips to ensure battery life."

Nokia 7380 Reviews

Infosync reviews the Nokia 7380 and concludes, "The Nokia 7380 bears no resemblence to an ordinary mobile phone, providing an Apple iPod-style scroll wheel for navigation and text input as opposed to a keypad. On the upside, it's smaller than most phones and also sports a widescreen display, but its mediocre battery life and virtually unusable text input hamper use to the extent that it cannot be recommended as a daily-use handset. Using it to show off, however, is another matter altogether."

MobileBurn reviews the Nokia 7380 and says, about the phone's camera: "The 7380's camera is a bit of a mixed bag. How well it will perform for you depends much on what type of pictures you intend to take. If you want to use the 7380 for taking snapshots while travelling and visiting places outdoors, you will probably be satisfied with the results. Especially in good sunlight, the 7380 takes nice ladscape shots. But if your photos tend more towards the dark and crowded scene, such as in bars, then you will have to look elsewhere to get your photo fix. The 7380's night mode does help clean up the photos shot in darker scenes, but at the expense of much of the color saturation. But trying to shoot in low light without using the night mode will rarely, if ever, produce acceptable results. The flash is decently bright, though its use always leads to blue tinted photos."

CNET reviews the Nokia 7380 and writes about the phone's camera: "Despite the higher image quality, it was difficult to note the difference when capturing an image because of the phone's screen size. As mentioned, the camera can also record video at 176x144 pixels in 3GP format. Resulting images were surprisingly clear and detailed for a camera phone, and the captured videos were good enough, considering its low resolution."

PCMag reviews the Nokia 7380 and writes about the phone's camera: "The 2MP camera has a decent flash, for a camera phone, and takes shots quickly. The shots are decently sharp, but we saw red and blue color halos and lots of color noise, putting the 7380 well behind camera phones such as the Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman. The movie mode takes videos at a choppy 176-by-144 and 15 frames per second."

Slashphone reviews the Nokia 7380 and finds it has a lot of contraints, but it's a phone you won't forget using. About the phone's camera: "The back of this phone is covered in leather, and that’s where the lens of the camera can be found. This is a very good 2 mega-pixel camera we are talking about. The small screen doesn’t do the pictures justice. You got to transfer the pictures into your computer to see its real quality. There’s no shortcut to get to the camera. You got to scroll through the menu and find it in the “Media” selections. The camera comes with 4x zoom which you can activate with the scroll."

LG LX350

LG LX350 - With Bluetooth capabilities, speakerphone, and speaker-independent voice recognition the new LX350 camera phone keeps consumers connected wherever you go. With dual full-color LCDs, users can see who's calling without a flip or view Picture Mail on the large internal screen. The external LCD also conceals when the phone is inactive, giving the LX350 a smooth and sleek appearance. With 3D graphics support, games will look great as well.

LG VX8300

Music lovers can use the VX8300 music-on-demand capability to download songs they want to play on the VX8300's integrated MP3 player. Like the LX550, the VX8300 offers music through dual stereo speakers or on a Bluetooth enabled stereo headset. For imaging, the VX8300 also features a 1.3-megapixel camera/video recorder. Its EV-DO and mobile Web capability go hand in hand to make the phone a high-speed portal to the Internet. The VX8300's advanced voice recognition combines with other features like Simultaneous GPS to provide end users with new and interesting capabilities.

Chocolate Phone - LG's ultra-thin, lightweight phone, the Chocolate Phone gives users a stylish handheld, while including the functionality including touch pad buttons, MP3 music player with stereo sound and multitasking capability.

Sony Ericsson W810i

Engadget has a hands-on video of the Sony Ericsson W810i for those of you who've been eager for a closer look.

More W810i news coming from CES 2006. GearLive has a video of a demo given by Sony Ericsson rep John Mulder, exploring the features of the new Sony Ericsson W810i.

Sony Ericsson has launched its new quad-band EDGE Walkman phone, the Sony Ericsson W810.

Update: MobileWhack reports that the FCC has approved the Sony Ericsson W810.

W810 features include:

* 2-megapixel camera
* Bluetooth
* audio playback
* Memory Stick Pro Duo card
* MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MIDI and WAV files supported

Mobiledia has a review of the Sony Ericsson W810i, and is very impressed with the phone's camera: "The W810i's built-in 2.0-megapixel camera is state-of-the-art, with unmatched usability and a bundle of effects and features. Although some noise and slight blurring occurred when not held steady, it's difficult to find a better camera phone with a high-resolution camera and user friendly features."

PCMag reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i and comments on the phone's camera: "We measured resolution at about 700 lines, which is very good. Outdoor shots were overexposed, with a bit of a haze over the image, and indoor shots didn't have the punchy colors of the Samsung MM-A800's 2MP camera. But those problems were quickly fixed in a photo-editing program, and this is still a very good phone camera. The camcorder function was useless, taking 176-by-144 videos at 10 frames per second, like many other cell-phone cameras."

MobileBurn reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and found it to be a fantastic handset, doing most things extremely well. About the phone's camera: "The white balance options cover most of the situations that you could expect to encounter: daylight, cloudy, incandescent, florescent, and automatic. The automatic mode handles most outside shots well, but had a few random issues on cloudy days for me. Indoor fluorescent lighting was handled by the auto mode fairly well, but as was the case with the K750 and W800, the automatic mode has serious trouble with incandescent lighting. Fortunately the manual incandescent white balance mode handles those situations well. Compared to the earlier models, though, the W810's night mode appears to received a sizeable upgrade in performance. Very low light situations will still be noisy, but less extreme scenes often look noise free and perfectly lit. Night mode can be quickly toggled by pressing on the 7 key when the camera is in use."

Phonescoop reviews the Sony Ericsson W810 and has this to say about the musicphone's camera capabilities: "The W810 is the only high-end cameraphone from Sony Ericsson that does not feature an active slide cover for the lens. There is a hump around the lens that effectively protects it from scratches, but not from pocket lint. Since it cannot be started by opening a cover, the camera is started by more traditional camera-phone means - either holding down the dedicated shutter button or starting the camera application from the main menu. The camera will not start unless the phone is awake. If the screen is asleep or keyguard is on, the camera cannot be started. Because of all the steps and time required to take a picture, we unfortunately missed a few too many Kodak moments while fumbling to get the W810 to take a picture."

PocketLint reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and likes the phone: "Taking its design cues from previous star performers such as the K750i, the W810i is a vision in matt black. Its compact lines set off by a rather novel soft key and joystick one-two-three combo sitting below an exceptionally clear 262k colour screen. ... In use it's a dream, as long as you like the Sony Ericsson menu system, anyway."

Infosync reviews the Sony Ericsson W810i, and finds the phone's camera to be "first-class". Overall: "Picking up where the W800i left off, the Sony Ericsson W810i offers improved music navigation in tandem with the same excellent music management capabilities and decent amount of bundled memory as its predecessor. Out-of-box audio quality is on par with the high standards we've come to except from the handset maker, while we're slightly disappointed by the lax transfer speeds of USB 1.1 and the lack of stereo Bluetooth audio. These niggles aside, the W810i makes for a stellar music phone with side servings of a 2 Megapixel camera and EDGE."

From the news release:

Sony Ericsson today announced the latest addition to its line-up of Walkman(R)- branded mobile music phones to further enhance the consumer's mobile music experience, the sophisticated, Satin Black W810. The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), enabling people to easily transfer their CD collection while staying connected to friends, family and business colleagues anywhere in the world.

The Sony Ericsson W810 offers the latest in mobile multi-media functionality. The W810 lets you listen to hours of music, capture and send high-resolution images, access the Internet, as well as take advantage of fast data download speeds for games and streaming video and stay connected through instant messaging or email. The latest Walkman phone comes with a 512MB removable Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM), which can be upgraded to a 2GB Memory Stick already available in retail stores, allowing consumers to store a wealth of music tracks, photos, video and other multimedia files on the phone.

Extending the highly acclaimed Sony Ericsson Walkman phone line-up, the stylish black with orange trim W810 advances the mobile music experience by seamlessly blending together entertainment and advanced mobile phone technology to offer a truly credible digital music experience supporting industry standard MP3 and AAC music file formats. The phone comes complete with quality HPM-70 stereo headphones which feature a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for personal customization.

Consumers can easily and quickly load music to the phone by uploading their CD collection on to the W810 from a PC via Memory Stick PRO Duo or USB 2.0 using the provided Disc2Phone music management software. This enclosed PC software makes it easy to sort, browse and transfer files on the 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo, which provides capacity for approximately 150 music tracks -- the equivalent of around 15 full length CDs.

Enjoying music on the Sony Ericsson W810 Walkman phone is extremely simple because a dedicated Walkman button quickly pulls up the music menu regardless of other applications in use. The most common music controls needed (Play/Pause/Stop/Skip Track/Volume) are positioned just below the phone's screen which allows people to move easily between tracks or adjust the volume on the speaker or headphones. Engaging Mega Bass(TM) improves the sound experience when listening to music through the external speaker or the high quality headphones provided.

"Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones are redefining how consumers listen and enjoy music. Since the launch of the W800 flagship Walkman (R) phone in August 2005, consumers across the world have been embracing the concept of the mobile phone as a credible digital music player. It is very exciting to see how Walkman phones are allowing people around the world to enjoy high quality music anywhere, anytime," said Miles Flint, president for Sony Ericsson.

"Like the popular song 'Born in the USA', the W810 Walkman phone was specifically designed with the needs of North American operators and consumers in mind, and it is the most advanced Walkman phone to date created for this region," said Najmi Jarwala, president and head of North American operations, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (USA), Inc. "If the sales of the current Walkman phones are any indication, we are expecting big things for the W810. It is an exciting time to be at Sony Ericsson in North America as we are starting to rapidly roll out innovative designs and feature-rich devices at all price segments for North American consumers."

The Sony Ericsson W810 features an integrated high-quality 2 megapixel auto-focus camera with photo light. It also features an easily recognizable digital camera-like interface enabling you to capture quality pictures and video.

As with all Walkman phones, your music automatically pauses when an incoming call is received and begins playing again when the call ends. The phone also offers a music-only mode for those occasions when the phone function must be disengaged, such as during air travel.

The W810 is equipped with EDGE technology, to allow quick and easy data transfers and Internet access, and Bluetooth(TM) Wireless technology for connectivity with Bluetooth handsfree headsets and sharing data with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. A range of Walkman phone accessories including speakers and desk stands will also be available.

The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone available in Satin Black and starts shipping in Spring 2006.

3G reviews the Samsung SGH-Z540V and finds it to be a nice looking 3G phone. The review isn't big on the phone's camera, though: "Its camera must be classed as entry-level only and some people harsher than me could call it below par by today's standards. Just to confirm it has a 1.3-megapixel camera on-board with 4x digital zoom."

From the news release:

Nokia today revealed the Nokia N72, a sleek and stylish new addition to the Nokia Nseries range. In pearl pink or gloss black, this compact package has high-perfomance multimedia at its core, wrapped in a beautiful design. The Nokia N72 offers the benefits of versatile photography, entertainment and personal productivity to people who value style as much as high performance. A powerful yet stylish multimedia device, the Nokia N72 is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera and integrated digital music player, with dedicated capture and music player keys, an integrated browser, FM radio and support for Visual Radio.

"The Nokia N72 perfectly illustrates our commitment to offer the powerful performance of the Nokia Nseries to people based in regions dominated by EDGE/GSM network coverage," said Pekka Pohjakallio, vice president, Multimedia Computers, Nokia. "The Nokia N72 allows you to tailor your multimedia device to match your interests, whether music, imaging or entertainment content, all in a stylish design you will be proud to own."

"The Nokia Nseries promise of high performance technology is at the core of the Nokia N72 design DNA; with this device people will feel like they can express their extrovert nature," said Bill Sermon, vice president of Multimedia Design, Nokia. "The design concept was inspired by what the Nokia N72 means to someone, rather than what it can merely do for that person. We drew on the relationship people have with things that inspire great performances, like the world's finest grand piano or the perfect handcrafted writing pen. We wanted to play with contrast and detail to create drama within the product - and the end result is a beautiful device that creates its own signature at the same time that it draws you in."

The pearl pink and gloss black versions of the Nokia N72 have digital textures on the back, which personalize the device. "The overall design makes a strong statement for the Nokia N72 as a multimedia computer, but the digital textures, or graphics, on the back add a subtlety of personal ownership, that it is my device," Sermon adds.

Walk, Talk and Rock
Personalize your Nokia N72 with a choice of digital music tracks, and enjoy music on the go with the integrated digital music player. Press the music key for direct access to your music tracks. Record music from your CDs, create playlists and transfer your music onto your Nokia N72 with the Nokia Music Manager, a part of Nokia PC Suite.

Matching themed headset and wrist strap are included in sales packs of the Nokia N72. Motorola i870

The Motorola i870 has MP3 playing capabilities and Nextel digital walkie-talkie, and also features a digital camera, Bluetooth® capabilities, GPS(1) and Nextel Direct Talk(SM), the off-network digital walkie-talkie service that works anywhere between compatible phones within a range of up to six miles.

Motorola i870 Reviews

CNET reviews the Motorola i870 and found the phone took decent pictures: "In another first for Nextel, the i870 features a 1.3-megapixel camera, which includes a 4X digital zoom, a flash, and a self-timer. Picture quality is decent, with better color saturation than we've seen from other megapixel camera phones, though it still can't compare with a digital camera. You can take pictures in sizes from 128x96 to 1,280x1,024 pixels in either Fine or Normal quality settings. On the other hand, it's missing the picture effects (black and white, sepia, and so on) and the white-balance controls that you find with most camera phones."

PhoneScoop reviews the Motorola i870 and writes about the phone's camera: "Like most clamshell phones, the i870's camera is near the hinge on the lid. The bulk of the lower half of the phone provides a nice perch to keep fingers out of the way of the lens, as well as steadying the phone in the hand. Unfortunately no matter how still the phone is held, shots still come out blurry. They lack any detail one might expect from a 1.3 megapixel camera. They look good on the phone's bright 176 x 220 screen, but when transferred to a PC their deficiencies are clear."

MobileTechReview reviews the Motorola i870, and is not very impressed with the phone's camera: "Photo quality is sub-par for a 1.3MP camera when compared to other camera phones of the same resolution such as the Nokia 6682 and LG VX9800 (though not much worse than the Cingular 8125 and E-TEN M600). Pictures taken in bright, direct sunlight tend to white out yellow and white objects, but works well with other colors. The camera has a purple-ish tint in sunny outdoor shots. The colors are reasonably bright. The camera captures much more detail in well lit indoor settings, showing sharp images with some color loss. Once you've taken a photo, you'll have options to save the picture, send it to a mobile number or an email address, use it as a caller photo ID or set it as the background of the phone’s main screen."

From the news release:

Operating on the Nextel National Network, the new i870 phone features a 1.3 mega pixel digital camera and a camcorder that record both video and still images that can be shared with other users via Nextel's Multimedia Messaging service (MMS). MP3 files, video and still images can be saved to the handset's Transflash removable memory card. The MP3 audio player is compatible with stereo headsets and features dedicated player buttons on the exterior of the clamshell-style handheld.

The Motorola i870 features Nextel's Group Walkie-Talkie® for fast and efficient walkie-talkie conversations with up to 21 participants and Nextel Direct Talk, the two-way radio feature that keeps users connected when one or all are out of a coverage area. The advanced handset also features Bluetooth® technology for hands-free wireless communication with compatible accessories, and is GPS(1) enabled, giving users access to a wide variety of location-based services and applications. The phone features a 176 x 220 internal color display and a 96 x 65 external color display for crisp, high-resolution visibility.

Motorola RAZR V3x Reviews

Motorola RAZR V3x Reviews

3G reviews the Motorola RAZR V3x and is pleased with the phone's camera: "Motorola’s photographic proficiency has always been a bit shaky but the V3x is the first Moto handset to carry a two-megapixel lens. Despite Moto’s reputation, this phone was extremely adept, especially at close-ups. A macro switch is easily accessible on the hinge below the screen and we found the lens focus on detailed shots impressive. There was little blur and very keen detail. On normal compositions the quality was equally consistent – colour depiction was strong with sharp contrast. A dedicated side key fires up the camera and you can control settings such as zoom (8x digital), exposure, lighting conditions and colour style using the five-way navigation pad. An LED light can be used for a flash effect."

Pocket-lint reviews the Motorola V3x and concludes, "If you're a fan of the Razr V3 and its styling then you'll no doubt like the V3x as it's a competent phone that offers all you would want from a 3G handset. ...That said even though as 3G handsets go this is pretty slim you can't help feel that the 3G elements really do bulk this phone out compared to its slimmer older brother."
